Conference under the title “Practical aspects of the EU regulation 2016/679 concerning the protection of personal data. How the lawyers should be prepared?” is being organized on September 7-10, 2017 in Olsztyn, Poland by:
- The European Association of Lawyers with the registered office in Brussels and
- The Olsztyn Bar Association (OIRP) based in Olsztyn, Poland.
The conference seeks to introduce its participants to the Regulation (EU) of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data (General Data Protection Regulation, or GDPR) and the practical aspects of its implementation. Further, conference participants will be recommended the manner in which lawyers and their Clients should prepare themselves for performance of duties imposed thereon by the said regulation. The conference organisers intend it to be of practical and functional nature first and foremost and to answer the personal data protection-related questions primarily in the context of business transactions and entrepreneurs.
To that end, we invited not only lawyers to the conference, but also IT specialists and persons responsible for personal data protection at renowned companies. This is because besides analysing the legal aspects of GDPR, we want to demonstrate how to protect oneself against digital and electronic threats, and thus not infringe the said regulation. It should be noted that ignorance of relevant laws can prove extremely costly, as fines for infringing the GDPR may reach up to EUR 20 million or 4% of the company’s total worldwide annual turnover of the preceding financial year. Hence, apart from legal preparation, companies ought to focus on the implementation of systems to protect them against the advanced and targeted attacks, which can no longer be resisted with present traditional measures. Corporate management of access rights to personal data which a vast majority of companies dedicate only marginal attention to will be another important conference topic. The presentations will also touch upon:
- the best personal data protection practices under the GDPR,
- the tools for safe, effective and compliant with the law transfer of personal data (cross-border transfer included),
- GDPR implementation challenges for lawyers,
- the recommendations for lawyers how to prepare their Clients “step by step” to the new legal status quo.
Both Polish and foreign personal data protection experts will give presentations at the conference. Key note speakers at the conference include Advocate Xawery Konarski, Professor Przemysław Polański and Ph.D. Marlena Sakowska-Baryła. The conference topics will definitely arouse interest of attorneys at law, lawyers, personal data administrators, compliance officers and entrepreneurs. Other issues related to the protection of personal data in Europe and in the world will also be addressed at the conference.
Lawyers and attorneys at law will receive training points for participation in the conference under the standard continuous training programme.
We have also prepared a comprehensive cultural programme for conference participants, whereby they will be able to discover the beauty and hospitality of Warmia and Masuria Region. Since the conference will be attended by numerous foreign lawyers, it will offer an excellent opportunity for starting cooperation, getting to know one another better and sharing not only legal views.
